Are you passionate about tackling climate change and ensuring no one is left behind? Here’s your chance to make a global impact by joining the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) as a Climate Resilience and Social Inclusion Specialist. This remote, 5-month consultancy role offers a unique opportunity to shape how gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) are integrated into climate resilience efforts—a critical yet often overlooked aspect of sustainable development. But here’s where it gets controversial: Can we truly achieve climate resilience without addressing the systemic inequalities that leave marginalized communities most vulnerable? Apply by 23 October 2025 and be part of the solution.
About IWMI
The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is a pioneering research-for-development organization dedicated to sustainable water and land management in developing countries. As a CGIAR Research Center, IWMI collaborates with governments, civil society, and the private sector across over 55 countries to develop scalable solutions that support agriculture, ecosystems, climate resilience, and inclusive growth. Their work is grounded in the belief that equitable access to water resources is essential for a sustainable future.
Position Overview
IWMI is seeking a Climate Resilience and Social Inclusion Specialist to support two FCDO-funded projects: the Water Resilience Tracker (WRT) and Al Murunah+. This role is pivotal in ensuring GESI principles are embedded into climate resilience tools, strategies, and monitoring frameworks. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, build capacities, and offer analytical guidance to strengthen inclusive approaches in water governance, nature-based solutions, and resilience-building initiatives. But this is the part most people miss: Without integrating GESI, even the most innovative climate solutions risk perpetuating inequalities. Are you ready to challenge the status quo?

- Develop tools to assess how different communities experience water resilience and climate stressors.
- Provide technical expertise for implementing the WRT’s gender strategy.
Capacity Strengthening

- Support inclusive data collection, reporting, and analysis.
Policy Engagement & Advocacy
- Collaborate with governments, NGOs, and community organizations to promote inclusive climate-water solutions.
- Facilitate dialogues and knowledge-sharing events to amplify marginalized voices in climate governance.

- Design GESI-sensitive monitoring tools for project impact assessment.
- Document lessons learned, case studies, and success stories.

- Contribute to policy briefs, research papers, and donor reports.
- Showcase inclusive approaches in climate resilience through publications and presentations.
Expected Deliverables
- A GESI Action Plan and Guidance Note for the Water Resilience Tracker.
- Training materials and workshops on GESI in climate-water research.
- A GESI-sensitive M&E framework with indicators and baseline tracking tools.
- Case studies, policy briefs, and knowledge products on inclusive water resilience.
- Evidence compilation for donor reporting and cross-learning initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Gender Studies, Sociology, Development Studies, Environmental Policy, or related social sciences.
Experience:
- 5–7 years applying GESI frameworks in climate change, water governance, or natural resource management.
- Proven experience mainstreaming GESI into donor-funded, multi-stakeholder projects.
- Background with international research institutions, NGOs, or multilateral organizations.
- Experience in index development and GESI indicators in climate resilience is advantageous.
Skills & Competencies:
- Expertise in gender analysis, intersectionality, and inclusive resilience approaches.
- Practical knowledge of climate adaptation and water security from a GESI perspective.
- Ability to design and apply GESI-sensitive MEL frameworks.
- Strong training, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Excellent writing skills for high-quality publications.
- Ability to thrive in diverse, multicultural, and multidisciplinary teams.
